Maybe I should give Baseball a second chance.

I gave up on Baseball about 5 years ago. The main reason for me was of course the steroid issue. It seemed like every week another star was admitting to using them and after a while you realize that the last 10 years have been a joke. I first started watching baseball as a kid in the 80's and like all other kids I loved the home run. It is perhaps the single most important play in sports today. The stars of the 80's would lead the league with numbers that would rarely exceed 40 home runs. As a child, I thought 40 home runs was a ton. I don't know when players began using them. I assume there was a fair share of players using them back in the 80's. The mid 90s brought a whole new era to baseball. An era that will be remembered for decades to come. Sammy Sosa and Mark Mcgwire led the charge with ridiculous numbers. I believe Sosa hit 60 home runs in 3 seperate seasons and McGwire of course set the single season home run mark passing Roger Maris. I think America knew what was going on but was caught up in the chase. Once Mcgwire set the mark, other players became jealous. Barry Bonds, who I'm no fan of, was probably the biggest loser in all of this because he was a hall of fame player before he "allegedly" started taking them. I try to look at it from his perspective and there is a part of me that understands. He was probably the best all round player in the game and then all of a sudden these guys start hitting 60 plus hrs in a season and getting monster contracts because of it. It's still no excuse. I think the last straw for me was the congressional hearings. I watched Mcqwire fumble his words, Palmeiro outright lie, and Sosa incoherently babble about steroids. I just gave up.....but......I have noticed myself getting back into it a little. I feel that baseball has cleaned up the game. The Reds though deserve most of the credit. It is a breath of fresh air to see a small market team excel and win their division. Watching a player like Joey Votto almost win a triple crown is so much fun and makes me feel like I did back In the 80's when I was a huge fan of Kirby Puckett. I hope that baseball has learned from it's mistakes because if the steroid crap happens again I will official shovel the dirt on baseball's casket.
