Yeah I still watch Pro Wrestling....Whats it to you?
I have always been a Pro Wrestling fan since before I can remember. I remember getting excited as a kid every saturday morning to watch the WWF. Wrestling was a lot different in those days. The most you could watch on TV was about an hour a week. The popular wrestlers like Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan hardly even wrestled on the weekly shows and the popualr wrestlers that did would always be in a "Squash" match where they would wrestle some "jobber" like Iron Mike Sharpe or the Brooklyn Brawler. Ahh those were the days. Yeah Im one of those guys. I'm not ashamed of it....Id be alot more ashamed about watching Glee or Greys Anatomy every week (Sorry Robin). Wrestling is scripted just like those terrible shows. I'm not under any misconceptions that westling is real....although I have personally met some people who think it is...and ...WOW. I love people who look down on us wrestling fans because it is "silly" or "fake"......those are the same people that will watch Kate plus Eight and watch that horrible hooker mom walk around exploiting her children on national tv. My wife watches that show religiously and Ive seen what she wears.....she looks like a hooker. Or maybe the detractors watch Greys Ananotmy.....Yeah thats realistic....IS it a common practice for all doctors to have sex in the hospital because every episode someone is "boning" in a closet. We all have guilty pleasures so get over yourself. Wrestling is over the top and thats the way I like it. Wrestling really evolved in the 90's. It became more mainstream and multiple federations started to air shows on national TV. Obviously the WWF/E was the first and the most successful and launched Monday Night Raw. Ted Turner got jealous of the WWE and produced their own Monday Night show....Nitro. The competition between the two created the most entertaining era of Pro Wrestling. My friends and I used to get together every monday night and watch both shows. We all knew it was fake but it was an excuse to get together. We used to travel to local federation shows...not really becuase of the wrestling but more because the hilljack fans that attended these shows were more entertaining than the wrestlers. Yeah that may sound hypocritical that im making fun of wrestling fans but lets face it..the fans who really think its real deserve to be made fun of....Those were some great times but unfortunately I got older and got married and my priorities changed. My friends all got married and had children and the wrestling get togethers went away..(tear)...The get togethers went away but secretly I still kept up with what was going on...lol...I met my wife in 2003 and Im pretty positive that my love of wresting was not discussed. "Hey honey after dinner do you want to watch RAW and see if the Undertaker will sacrifice Vince McMahon's daughter on live television?".... Thats really not a good ice breaker when trying to impress a lady. Unless you like the toothless variety...Zing! I slowly revealed my interest and to this day I still keep up with it. I cant watch the whole program so I DVR it and fast forward to the good stuff. I think I will always have a love for it. Its not what people say is "High Brow" entertainment but it really is like the Male Soap Opera. I want to know every week if Ric Flair will drop dead from a Heart Attack or will Nexus be the next big thing in wrestling. With Lost and 24 gone from my usual routine of weekly television, I need something to keep me going. So to all you critics out there...go back to watching those decrepit women on Desperate Housewives or the annoying karaoke singers on American Idol.
